How to Tell If a Spider Is Venomous

There are over 40,000 species of spiders in the world and while most of them are perfectly harmless, there are a number that are incredibly deadly.
Unfortunately, Australia has more than its fair share of lethal spiders and it is every Australians duty to be able to recognise the venomous spiders.

Unfortunately there is no simple rule you can follow, you need to learn what each of the venomous spiders in your area look like so that you can spot them at any time.

The two lethal spiders in Australia are the funnel web and the red back, though the mouse, with tail, wolf and black house spiders are also dangerous.

The funnel web is generally between 25 and 30 millimeters in body length, a shiny black colour with a dark purple abdomen and red hairs. They have long spinnerets, which are appendages at the end of their abdomen. The funnel web has thicker legs and a narrow abdomen.

The red back is hard to indentify because they can vary greatly in size, with a large female having an abdomen the size of a pea, and because they do not always have a red dot on their back, despite their name. The red back has narrow legs and a proportionally larger abdomen.

Could A Flood Invite Rodents To My Home?

As if having your house flooded was not enough, it is quite common for pests to invade after the flood waters have receded. In particular, rats are highly invasive following floods and will colonise your home, taking advantage of the natural disaster and making things worse for you.

The combination of a deserted home plus the detritus washed in by the waters are an open invitation to rats to come exploring, looking for a new abode. They will more than likely have lost their nests, so they need a new home, and yours is ripe for the picking following a flood. Rats seem to have a knack for taking advantage of disastrous situations, a sixth sense for crises. They can sense a weakness almost instantly and capitalise on it in no time, so you have to act fast.

To make sure you don’t get stuck with a rat infestation after the floods, you should call your local pest control experts. They will come around and help you rat proof your place, plugging up any holes and laying bait.

Having a rat infestation is the last thing you need after a natural disaster, so act pre-emptively and get in the professionals.

How Long Should I Tolerate A Pest Problem?

With pests of any kind, time is of the essence. The longer you take to react, the harder it will be to eradicate the problem. It will cost more as well, so by acting sooner rather than later, you are saving yourself money and you are providing a safer and more secure environment.

The best defence is a good offence, as they say, and with pests this is especially true. It is better to prevent an infestation than to try and remove it, which means that you should get your local pest control company around to give your home the once over. They will tell you what you are at risk from and will provide a variety of options on how to remedy any issues.

If it is too late, and you have an infestation, then you need to act immediately. This is especially true of termites, as they can cause serious structural damage to your home, but it is also true of every other pest.
Pests are a danger to your physical and mental health. They can quickly turn your home into a horror, and they can leave both physical and mental scars.

Don’t live with a pest infestation any longer, act now.
