How To Kill Mice Too Light To Trigger A Mousetrap

If you have a mouse problem then the solution seems easy enough, go out and buy some traps, set them and sit back to wait for the snap. It is not always that easy though, unfortunately. Often you will come back to the trap to find it has been sprung and the bait is gone, but so has the mouse. All you seem to be doing is providing them with food and a challenge.

If you are having this problem, then there are a few things you can do. First, if you still want to use the mouse trap then you need to get smarter about how you set it and what you use as bait. For starters, the bait should be as far from the spring as possible, as it will require less force to set it off. Also, you should use sticky or tacky bait, as they will have to work harder to get it off, thus increasing the chances of it springing.

If you have featherweight mice, and need a new method of extermination, then poison is probably the best way to go. You do need to be careful if you have young children or pets though. The major disadvantage with poison is that the mouse may die somewhere inconvenient, leaving you with a considerable stench for some time.

Should I Let My Dog Catch Rats And Mice?

In general it is not a good idea to let your dog catch rats and mice, though this depends on your situation. The main reason for this is that there is a chance that they could get poisoned. It is unlikely they will catch a live poisoned rat or mouse, but if they get into the habit of catching them, they may eat a dead one that has been poisoned.
The best thing to do is to discourage them from eating any vermin they find. Otherwise, they may get sick or even die.

Having said that, there are a number of dogs that have been specifically bred to hunt rats and mice, so stopping them may be quite difficult. It all depends on your situation. If you live in an urban setting, then you have little chance of knowing whether a rat or mouse has been poisoned. If you live far away from other inhabitations, then you are far more likely to know.

If you feel comfortable with your dog hunting rats and mice and are aware of the potential poisoning danger, then having your dog hunt them can be a great method of pest control. Not only do you get rid of the vermin, your dog has a great time in the process.
